There are so many old buildings on my way to work. This one is less than a mile from our house. It is really only seen from the road in the fall and winter months when the leaves have disappeared from the trees. The field next to this building has had tobacco, and some other crop (foreign to me), growing since we moved in two years ago.

According to Wikipedia, Granville County (the county we live in) was founded in 1746. Before we came to this land, the Tuscarora Indians were it’s main inhabitants. At one point, Granville County had more than 10,000 slaves. However, the Granville County Historical Society website also likes to point out that there was “a sizable community of free blacks claiming dozens of craftsmen, especially masons who helped build the grand homes of the more affluent families.” Over 2,000 Granville county men participated in the Civil War.

Makes me wonder who lived in that little cabin.
