So yesterday, Violet, Colleen and I were hanging out in the bedroom. I was on the computer doing my own thing, Colleen was working on something, and Violet was drawing on some paper at Colleen’s desk. Violet says she’s going to write a grocery list. I told her that was fine, but she had to write her name at the top of the paper. She, in her bright, cheery tone, says, “OKAY!” I love hearing her say “OKAY!”, it’s so freaking cute. She continues writing and says something about how she wrote her name. I, of course, didn’t believe her, so I walked over to where she was sitting and this is what I saw:
Freaking brilliant.
So, I quickly take that piece of paper away from her to save it for posterity. And she does it again. Pretty much plain as day. This time she actually gets to write her grocery list. Items on the list included: a car, picture frames, tap dancing shoes, blankets, vacuum cleaner, photo of Nick, and a pie.
But, wait, the brilliance doesn’t end there. She sees my name (Travis, not Dad or Daddy) and says that she wants to write Dad’s name. So, she sits down in front of where she sees my name and does this:
Mason is having his own shades of brilliance. The other day, in the car, he saw his chocolate milk and yelled, “MILK!” at his mother. Yesterday, I was filling the bathtub and he was standing next to me, naked and ready to take a bath. He tugged on my arm and said, “In!” He’s getting there, he’s really starting to do a great job communicating what he needs. This is when it starts to get really fun!
Something not so brilliant is what my backyard looks like on the Second of March in North Carolina. My backyard should never look like this. I left Colorado specifically because of snowstorms in non-Winter months. I really don’t like snow. Really.
